A lovely place of soul returns to Cala Olivera on Ibiza's east coast

New doesn't always mean worse, more commercial, or more expensive in Ibiza. In fact, the opposite is true for the new La Chismosa Chiringuito in Cala Olivera! While a change or loss of license for Ibiza's chiringuitos has often meant that the good old days were replaced by pseudo-hip beach bars or, in the most extreme cases, exclusive beach clubs, the change of owner in Cala Olivera has brought the soul back to this charming, olive-shaped dream cove nestled between pine forest, reddish-brown cliffs, and a mini sandy beach. Here on the east coast of Ibiza, between Santa Eulària and Roca Llisa, Jorgelina and her team opened La Chismosa Chiringuito on August 24, 2025 – and immediately won the hearts of locals, residents, and holidaymakers alike. I certainly won't shed a tear for its predecessor, the, in my opinion, unfortunately soulless and wannabe-hip Hydrogen Beach Bar. With La Chismosa, there's finally a real chiringuito again in the charming Cala Olivera – simple, welcoming, and authentic.

Positive energy and a smile for everyone
The new owner Jorgelina, a journalist from Santa Eulària, won the concession in the last regular tender and was finally able to open after a delayed legal battle; her predecessor had challenged the decision of the Ayuntamiento (Municipality) of Santa Eulària. Together with her team, all female except for chef Rodi, she has restored Cala Olivera to the place it once was: uncomplicated, charming, authentic, and affordable. "Chismosa is intended to be a typical, traditional chiringuito, like it used to be," explains Jorgelina. "Affordable prices, not a beach club, a place for everyone: tourists, locals, foreigners, Spaniards." And indeed, you immediately feel the positive energy when you go to the bar and order a drink or ask for a table. You are greeted with a genuine smile, feel welcome, and sense: This is Ibiza as it should be, as it was, as it still is in many places. Ibiza has now regained such a special place.
A look at the menu
Uncomplicated, freshly prepared, delicious, and affordable: Whether it's croquetas (€6), empanadas (€4), tasty salads (€12 to €15), or juicy burgers (vegetarian €16, Angus €18) – there's something for everyone here. Must-try: homemade banoffee (€6). A small freshly tapped beer (caña) costs €3.50, a tinto de verano for €6, and the perfect sangria de cava (1 liter) costs €32. And the coffee? It comes from a portafilter machine. Ibiza – what more could you want?!
